A department of Miami-Dade County, the Port of Miami is a recognized world leader in the cruise industry, as well as a major gateway for cargo shipments in the Americas. The benefits to the local economy are substantial, as are the inherent expectations and demands from its business partners and customer base. A major function of a Seaport is to provide berthing space to cruise and cargo vessels in a manner that fulfills their owners’ needs and also guarantees the efficient use of the available docking space. A new Beth Planning System was designed and implemented by the Port of Miami Information Technology and Berthing Sections which was the catalyst in the modification and improvement of existing business processes. The new system provides the Berthing Officers with cutting-edge geographical planning boards and makes berthing information available to the Port’s husbandry agents via online inquiries and a first-of-its-kind real-time virtual port image.
