About the Program

Category: County Administration and Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2016

The Elections Department implemented a series of reforms and innovations during the 2015 Coordinated Election to prepare for the 2016 Presidential Election. The need for this program was identified after the counting of ballots in previous elections went well into the early hours of the following day. The Elections Department sought to identify the reasons contributing to the long hours with a desire to address the causes. An exhaustive examination of the election process yielded a roadmap for improvement. The Elections Department made careful plans ahead of the 2015 Coordinated Election that could be easily expanded to fit the needs of the larger voter universe that will participate in a Presidential Election. The program implemented was unquestionably successful, and saved taxpayer money, staff time, and improved the voter’s experience.
