As a part of a wellness program goal to increase opportunities for employees and their families to eat more fruits and vegetables, Chester County’s Employee Wellness Program, organized a lunchtime growers’ markets at several government office locations and provided an opportunity for employees to buy shares from a local Community Supported Agriculture farm. The Wellness Committee invited local farmers to set up stands outside office buildings and sell fresh produce to employees during lunch and breaks. The markets featured seasonal fruits and vegetables, free-range chickens, eggs, honey, whole grain breads, and even pre-prepared vegetarian sandwiches made from local produce. Markets were held once a week from June to September. Between 225 and 300 employees visited each market.
