Year: 2017
As the largest water and sewer utility in the southeastern United States, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) serves nearly 2.3 million residents and thousands of daily visitors. Fulfilling our vision to deliver continuous high quality drinking water and wastewater services in compliance with all regulatory requirements, WASD has planned a systematic and responsible Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). It provides necessary upgrades to thousands of miles of pipes, pump stations and treatment plants that provide high quality drinking water and wastewater services. During the next two decades, the County will invest approximately $13.5 billion to enhance and upgrade WASDâs infrastructure utilizing state-of-the-art technology. With the thousands of CIP projects located within Rights-of-Ways planned by WASD alone, it is paramount to facilitate project coordination with other agencies to identify opportunities to perform joint projects and minimize disruptions and construction impacts to our constituents. Collaborating with municipalities and utilities can minimize unnecessary breaking of roads which will decrease the impact to residents. It can also promote construction cost sharing between agencies by identifying opportunities during the planning phases of projects thus minimizing impact to roadways by entering joint project agreements. WASD, Miami-Dade Public Works and Transportation (PWT), and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are sharing projects by way of the iMDC Utility Coordination GIS Viewer. This free service allows municipalities and utilities to view upcoming projects, be alerted to projects sharing similar space and time, and run through a time slider to determine best time to plan a project and share construction costs.
