San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department in collaboration with the San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department provided the Home Visiting Program (HVP) to first time parents and pregnant mothers eligible for CalWORKs. It is at infancy that critical cognitive, social, and emotional development is shaped and a foundation for future success is built. Families without home visits schedule less doctorâs visits, are less prepared for school, have higher rates of child maltreatment and injuries, and are less likely to enroll their child in preschool. Much of this comes from a lack of education about child development and an inability to research community resources. Home Visiting began as an Initiative in March 2019 and became a Program in July 2019. The Program objective is to provide parenting education and community resource information in the home. HVP supports positive health, development and well-being outcomes for the family primarily in the home and offers group socializations for the families. The program offers community referrals, health and safety items (such as first aid kits), self-sufficiency items (such as Chrome Books) and support. The Home Visiting Program has provided support to 309 families since March of 2019 and provided over 1227 referrals to community services.
