About the Program

Category: Civic Education and Public Information (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

Trees, both significant individual trees and groups of trees, have played a vital role in the lives of Clackamas County’s residents. Because of that, in 2006 Clackamas County established the Heritage Tree Program to recognize these natural treasures that live side-by-side with today’s citizens and those who were there before them. The program encourages citizens to recognize, appreciate, and protect heritage trees that provide a vital sense of place in the cultural and historic landscape. Citizens can nominate individual or groups of trees in Clackamas County for Heritage Tree designation. Trees are eligible based on inclusion in at least one of the four categories: specimen tree, historic tree, landmark tree, or tree collection.
