Year: 2017

Chesterfield County Government (the county) employs approximately 4,000 people, and those employees are considered one of the county’s most valuable assets. Employee benefits, such as health care and retirement, are a critical component of an employee's total compensation. To offer the best possible benefits package, while controlling costs, the county focuses on the overall health and wellness of its employees. In December 2008, the county joined forces with Chesterfield County Public Schools (the school system) to create a comprehensive wellness program that would address lifestyle behaviors that affect personal health, productivity and quality of life. C-Fit, the employee wellness program, has developed into a comprehensive wellness program that includes initiatives highlighting physical activity, nutrition, mental health and disease prevention, with the focus of creating opportunities for all employees to be happy, healthy and productive. The goal of adding a wellness incentive program in 2016 was to motivate employees to take charge of their own personal health and wellness, by offering a cash incentive for being proactive about their health.
