Mecklenburg County Information Services and Technology partnered with the Department of Social Services to develop an interface between the integrated Social Services System and the State Food Stamp case, the disposition information was entered into ISSI for case management purposes and entered again into the state system in order for benefits to be disbursed by the state. The benefits of the newly developed interface between the two systems include elimination of duplicate data entry, reduction of keying errors, time savings per case, and improved case management wherein changes can be entered and held before final submittal, eliminating the need to start over with a submittal if interrupted or unable to complete at the time of client appointment. The interface was developed using modern Service Oriented Architecture component design and secure communication between state and county systems and was completed on time and within budget constraints given a very aggressive schedule and state-mandated deadlines.
