The Fleet Management department has a growing number of technical and mechanical employees who possess the desire and aptitude to promote to higher-level positions, but lack the opportunity to obtain the required qualifying experience in their current position. The Field to Supervision courses were designed to prepare field staff to compete for and succeed at, supervisory positions within the department. Outcomes include supervisors that are more qualified to fulfill their role, a more robust succession plan for the department, and higher productivity as a result of putting people in roles they are better equipped to be successful in. Other departments within the County share the same concern; therefore, the Field to Supervision courses were designed to address issues for any County department facing similar challenges.
