The Department of Public Works created a field ergonomics training video to train its personnel how to avoid overexertion and cumulative trauma injuries. The video was created in response to the realization that although many videos and other training aids exist for office ergonomics, very few exist for the types of operations performed by Public Works’ field employees. The funding for the video was secured from a County training fund. A vendor was selected and a script was written emphasizing selected tasks routinely performed by employees who work in field divisions. These employees, along with Employee Health and Safety Section, developed the script for the video. The video shows employees performing routine work in an ergonomically correct method while a host narrated and described the proper techniques. The video covers tasks which involve high probability of causing injuries to Department personnel. The finished product was a 21-minute training video that will be used for years as a training aid for Development field personnel.
