About the Program
Category: Human Services (Best in Category)
Year: 2018
In March 2015 Douglas County management challenged staff to utilize the faith-based community to deliver supportive services to vulnerable residents. County staff identified three areas of need that could be addressed through effective partnership with faith-based organizations. These three areas were foster care, integrated delivery of human services and provision of shelter for homeless residents. This three-year initiative, from 2015 through 2017, built partnerships resulting in more efficient and effective services for our most vulnerable residents. The Faith-Based Initiative resulted in the identification and recruitment of 44 new foster families, the provision of 3,693 meals to TANF eligible families and 1,249 bednights of shelter for homeless residents through local churches.
