Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

The Facilities Management Department replaced 27,00 square feet of turf at Facilities Management Headquarters with a demonstration garden featuring California native and California Friendly plants, smart irrigation controls, mulch from recycled construction materials, and tree trimmings that would have otherwise gone to the landfill, decomposed granite paths, and 5 plots of different blends of drought-tolerant fescue grass. The different fescue blends are being monitored to assess the aesthetic appeal, durability, and drought tolerance of the different types of turf. In the first 6 months, Facilities Management headquarters saved over 1 million gallons of waters.
