The ePolice Mobile application for Blackberry devices provides a cost-effective, creative solution for extending critical departmental functions to mobile Blackberry users. The application accomplished the integration of various standard mobile-critical inquiries into a single, easily accessible framework for Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Blackberry users. Utilizing state-of-the-art Java and back-end web service technology, the Information Technology Services Bureau staff was able to deliver enhanced mobile capabilities to departmental end users. The overall design of the application was intended to serve as a user-friendly approach for departmental executive staff to access crucial, strategic-based information. The most critical element to the success of the application has been the innovation of delivering timely Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) 9-1-1, Traffic Incident, Be On The Lookout (BOLO) messages, and Criminal Justice Information system (CJIS), Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC), and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) subject/tag/vehicle queries using existing mobile devices; thereby allowing MDPD senior staff to make proactive and timely decisions. The application currently supports 100 users, with the potential to double the user base.
