Prior to 2010, Hardin County EMS was unable to effectively meet the specialized needs of treating and transporting the extremely obese (bariatric) patients. Beginning in January 2010 through use of a team approach involving planning, guideline development, training, equipment acquisition and operational changes, this County-operated EMS program is now able to provide services to this patient population in a safe and cost efficient manner.
