San Bernardino County Children and family Services (CFS) initiated an Education Liaison (EL) support program to enhance support services for foster youth to improve educational outcomes. A collaborative effort by the San Bernardino County Superintendant of Schools Foster Youth Services (SBCSS-FYS) and CFS with the shared goal of improving foster youth graduation rates in San Bernardino County. There are a total of twelve ELs who ensure youth are enrolled in appropriate academic programs, attend Independent Education Plan (IEP) meetings as needed, assist social workers, parents, caregivers and the courts in troubleshooting/resolving education problems resulting in more foster youth staying in school, graduating from high school, enrolling in post-secondary education/training, and accessing educational resources and support.
