The Maricopa County Human Services Depart (MCHSD) Early Education Division has provided 50 years of support to children and families in achieving school readiness and parent engagement through the Head Start and Early Head Start grant awards. MCHSD uses an approach to serving children through comprehensive services and multiple early care and education options with extended days, that is responsive to community needs and identified by program parents.MCHSD-EED identified Tempe Unified as a strong partner with the capacity to equitably combine resources to engage vulnerable children in meaningful experiences, including those with special needs, that meet learning outcomes and has access to multiple community resources that impacts the quality of life for many of its residents. The collaboration to increase enrollment opportunities with Tempe partnerships impacts the population of low-income children who reside within the Tempe boundaries in need of extended care options. Children from families with various risk factors and need comprehensive services and resource coordination are also positively impacted.
