The Wake County Drop Off Locator http://maps.wakegov.com/sw is a mobile friendly application that gives citizens and businesses information about locations where they can recycle and dispose of materials. Previously, the information about Wake County recycling and disposal options was available as a table of information on a website that was not designed for viewing on mobile devices. The new application was created collaboratively by the Wake County Solid Waste Management Division, Wake County Geographic Information Services as well as an application developer from the City of Raleigh. The purpose of the Drop Off Locator is to provide clear, easy to use information to citizens and businesses. The application can be used on a mobile phone to find locations for recycling and disposal of a variety of materials along with directions from the customer’s location to the facility. The Wake County Drop Off Locator is being used by the public; we are able to measure traffic to the site using Google Analytics. Wake County Solid Waste Management division currently manages 17 recycling and disposal facilities located throughout Wake County. This application improves services provided by the County as citizens can quickly research disposal and recycling options based on location, material, and hours of operation.
