Drainage Improvement ProgramHinds County, MississippiAbstract:The Hinds County, Mississippi Public Works Department offered a new service to Hinds County residents in 2009 which consisted of routinely inspecting and cleaning out roadside ditches and drainage facilities within Hinds County. When it rained constituent calls to the Public Works Department went up drastically concerning clogged and overflowing ditches within public right-of-way. To decrease citizen’s calls and address their concerns regarding potential flooding issues dealing with ditches on public right-of-way we became proactive and started routinely inspecting and cleaning out ditches and drainage facilities on public right-of-way. Once the program was started we noticed a distinct decrease in drainage related calls and work order request for drainage facility cleaning. The improvements will help prevent possible flooding of personal property, residential homes and commercial buildings. The goal of the Public Works Department is to improve the delivery of services to the citizens of Hinds County, MS in a timely and efficient manner. Contact:Carl Frelix, Public Works Director900 E.
