Domestic Violence is the occurrence or pattern of abusive behavior between family members or members of an unmarried couple. The abuse can be physical, psychological, sexual, verbal or emotional. Domestic violence occurs throughout our community and can affect families and relationships regardless of age, race, economic status, religion or education. This type of violence has no boundaries. In 2009, the Jefferson County, Ky., Office of the Circuit Court Clerk (OCCC) seized the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of individuals throughout our community who had fallen victim to domestic violence. On November 15, 2009, the Domestic Violence Intake Center (DVIC) was created to consolidate domestic violence services into a one-stop center open 24 hours to assist victims of domestic violence. The DVIC provided a fundamental change to our justice system’s response to domestic violence by creating a safe haven for victims who seek legal protection to begin breaking the cycle of violence. The DVIC has played a vital role in educating the community about domestic violence and the services available to victims and their families. The DVIC is dedicated to providing safety and security for thousands of victims of domestic violence each year.
