In November 2011, the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation collaborated with the Dodgers Dream Foundation and the LA84 Foundation to renovate an outdated ballfield in Mona Park. The project was the first of its kind in the County of Los Angeles and the 16th park in the Los Angeles area to receive the grant. The renovation was immediately embraced by the community and was so successful that in April 2012, two additional County of Los Angeles Parks (Lennox and Athens) were selected as the 24th and 25th recipients. More than $185,000 in renovations and resources were used to upgrade each ballfield to become one of the most state of the art fields in the County of Los Angeles. Visual upgrades included new backstops, dugout roofs, bleachers, benches, field turf and new sod. To ensure the grass remains a pristine green, each park also received irrigation improvements. Player safety was also an important consideration in the renovation which includes upgrades of playing surfaces making them smooth and consistent. Dreamfields also received solar-powered scoreboards, with the tag line âThink Blue, Act Green.â
