Over the years, Mecklenburg County has incorporated strategic planning into its budget and evaluation model. The County’s first strategic plan was in 2001 when it developed its Corporate Strategic Business Plan that reflected the priorities across the County. However, the County did not have strategic planning practices embedded within departments. In 2015, 20 County departments and two business partners developed three-year strategic business plans for the FY2017 – FY109 fiscal years. The business plans reflected key priorities translated into goals, objectives, strategies, actions and associated costs. The strategic business plans were used to develop the FY2017 County budget; plans will be implemented on July 1, 2016.
