The Department Diversity Committee (DDC) Program is a structured framework created by Human Resources to assist County departments in the development, maintenance, and growth of committees focused on the achievement of diversity and inclusion goals. The program also supports the County Vision of capitalizing “on the diversity of its people.” The committees formed through this program consist of department employees from every level of the organization. Representatives from each committee attend quarterly trainings created and presented by the Human Resources’ Equal Employment Opportunity Office. The trainings begin with general guidelines on forming a DDC and then provide continuing education on diversity and inclusion related topics. These quarterly meetings also provide a forum for the DDCs to share ideas, best practices, and challenges. The pilot program began in the 2014-15 fiscal year with six County departments. More departments were added each subsequent fiscal year. Currently, the program has facilitated the development of 26 active DDCs countywide, comprising over 60% of County departments.
