About the Program

Category: Human Services (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

The Department of Children and Family Services’ (DCFS) Regional Center program is responsible for providing services to approximately 2,500 to 3,000 Regional Center clients, of all ages, served by DCFS each year. The problem faced by Los Angeles County was how to best unite several independent agencies, LAC Department of Children and Family Services and the seven independent Regional Centers of the California Department of Developmental Services, serving Los Angeles County, to best meet the needs of children with developmental disabilities. The DCFS approached this problem by establishing a Program for Regional Center Clients. This involved the appointment of a Regional Center Coordinator, the establishment of Regional Center Teams in all 18 DCFS offices, the creation of cross-training with the seven Regional Centers, working with the LAC Children’s Court and so forth, on behalf of those with developmental disabilities.
