The new David F. Bone EMTOC is a collection of 12 buildings on two parcels and serves the Department of Transportation’s Divisions of Transit Services and Highway Services and the Department of General Services’ Division of Fleet Management. It was constructed to relocate the existing facilities that were located at the Shady Grove Metro Station. By relocating the facilities, a transit oriented redevelopment has become a reality. The new onsite facilities include administrative buildings; parking structure for buses, employees, and visitors; fare collection area; bus wash and fuel facility; maintenance bays; parts room; storage shed; soil/gravel bunkers; salt/sand barns; compressed natural gas fast-fill, gasoline, and diesel fueling stations. The facilities encompass 41 acres of land. The new design includes many acres of Stream Buffer Protection, Forest Conservation and newly created green areas. This was achieved by designing a multi-story facility with car and bus parking on elevated parking structures. The design supports 200 buses.
