Year: 2017

A data management methodology was instituted by Miami-Dade County’s Information Technology Department (ITD) involving the integration between two technologies, the Geographical Information System (GIS) and the Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS), by using various products provided by these two suite of tools. GIS provides for the maintenance of geographical locations and map layers with associated data points, path and boundaries while EAMS manages detail asset information and operations-related work orders. Due to the challenges the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department (PROS) encountered managing data between these two disparate systems, a methodology was implemented to streamline the process and lay the foundation for subsequent county departments utilizing these two enterprise-wide systems. A strategy for data validation, cleansing, synchronization, and maintenance was established.
