The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) spreads general awareness about the needs and challenges of youth and through adult mentorship, students at Lincoln High School, Mira Mesa High School, and Scripps Ranch High School have produced three creative public service campaigns that resonate with their peers and community members. Lincoln’s campaign “Respect: Give it, Get it” captures responses from students and community members using a kinetic typography video to illustrate the importance of mutual respect and taking responsibility for one’s actions. Mira Mesa’s “The Fight” campaign recognizes that despite having a diverse student body, one thing everyone has in common is that they all have struggles to overcome. Through a mobile webpage, they encourage students to identify their fights, respect that others are struggling and to recognize help is available. Scripps Ranch’s “Redefine Success” mobile webpage campaign highlights that there are many different paths to success and the most important achievement is happiness with oneself. The collaboration between the DA’s Office, City Schools, and our community partners is a win for everyone because we see students become leaders as they learn about public service and public safety while delivering their campaigns throughout the County.
