Category: Personnel Management, Employment and Training (Best in Category)

Year: 2015

The Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) Mentoring Program was created to provide a networking opportunity for exposure, education, and professional development through a mutually beneficial mentoring relationship. The program includes the pairing of participating employees from DAAS, also known as “Mentees,” with “Mentors,” who work with the Mentee to create a career development plan that focuses on the Mentee’s interests and goals. Throughout the course of the six (6) month program, Mentees and Mentors meet regularly, and all participants attend additional meetings that include training and presentations related to career development. The program has benefited Mentors and Mentees by fostering individual professional development and increasing job satisfaction. The department has also benefited from having more knowledgeable, fulfilled, and well-rounded employees, which results in greater productivity, higher retention rates, succession planning, and improved customer service. Since the inception of the DAAS Mentoring Program in 2013, the number of participants has increased by 109%. Additionally, participants have reported a significant percentage of positive impacts since their participation in the program, such as going back to school, receiving a promotion, or taking on new duties in their current position.
