At the direction of the Orange County Executive, Steve Neuhaus, the Orange County Attorney’s Office launched “A Parents’ Guide to Preventing Sexting and Cyberbullying” geared towards giving parents and caregivers a guide for prevention and awareness. This program offers parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn about what their children may be doing or have access to on their device. It offers real-time examples of applications children are using and guides parents on how to check their child’s device. Having frequent and consistent conversations with children about their digital lives is only the first step. Orange County’s program helps give parents the confidence and knowledge to know and understand what to look for and how to talk to their children. The program has also been adapted to target students and teens as an information guide to the potential crimes they may be committing by engaging these behaviors. The program also provides other agency services that are available to students and teens if they are a victim or know someone that is.
