The Cultural Responsiveness Academy is a year-long learning experience designed in response to the County of San Diego Health and Human Service Agency, Child Welfare Services (CWS) departments’ awareness that concerns of disproportionality, disparity of services, and bias in decision making continue to impact the children and families served. The Cultural Responsiveness Academy provides integrated cultural responsiveness training to improve cultural awareness, knowledge and skills in all levels of the child welfare workforce. It incorporates multi-modality training methods to enhance the transfer of learning and ensure trainees are able to adjust their individual practice as well as create organizational changes to better meet the needs of the county’s increasingly diverse population. The Cultural Responsiveness Academy incorporates input from community partners and key stakeholders and is delivered to all levels of the workforce including support staff, social workers, supervisors, managers and policy staff.
