Year: 2010

Using a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the California Emergency Management Agency, San Diego County’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) produced an animated tsunami preparedness video for children grades K-12. OES staff developed a story, song and script about a teacher crab instructing student crabs on tsunami preparedness. The project was directed and produced by OES staff with animation created by Absolute Zero Visualization. The result was a 6 ½ minute video that is educational and entertaining for both children and adults. The video, called “Tsunamis: Know What to Do!” is featured on the ReadySanDiego.org web site as well as several other web sites. The video has been a tremendous success for OES. In October of 2009, the California Emergency Services Association (CESA) bestowed their Platinum Award, which is their highest level of recognition from CESA, to OES staff in recognition of the Tsunami Preparedness video.
