In 2008, the Crime Prevention Task Force (CPTF) was established creating partnerships among agencies that are dedicated to reducing crime. This group, including eight Lancaster County Departments, schools, non-profits, churches, and police, meet every two weeks to target problems in the community and to brainstorm solutions. A major goal of the task force is to lessen crime in Lancaster by reaching out to children before they become a crime statistic. One of the first projects initiated was the Crime Prevention information Center Website (www.crimefreelancaster.org). The website was designed to offer resources to children, parents, schools, justice systems, and community organizations. It serves as a clearinghouse for treatment, prevention, intervention, and education information within Lancaster County. Lancaster County Information Technology developed a searchable website that offers user-friendly menus. Anyone visiting the site has the option of finding information via subject or user category. In addition to the information being accessible to the community, agency representatives can update the site easily. The site requires little maintenance and is low cost, yet provides information for the masses that can truly make a difference.
