A sparkling addition to the historic County Administration Center has forever changed the face of downtown San Diego. The County opened the Waterfront Park, its crown jewel of parks, on May 10, 2014 transforming two parking lots into a dozen acres of parkland and establishing a new “front porch” for San Diego. Since then thousands of visitors have marveled at the spectacular 830-foot-long fountain that runs nearly the length of the park. The west side of the park features expansive greens that offer views of San Diego Bay and the Star of India. The northeast side showcases a variety of gardens and offers opportunities for leisurely strolls or quiet contemplation from a number of seating spots. The southeast quadrant of the park features a huge playground with giant slides, swings, a merry-go-round and state-of-the-art play equipment.
