Broward County, Florida is one of the first county governments to offer its employees professional development through a climate change training program. The County has made significant commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase community resilience by training its staff. As a coastal community, Broward County administration recognized the need for employees to work together and apply their skills and knowledge to address environmental challenges. Furthermore, dedication to long-term sustainability includes enhancing community resilience, protecting our environment, and ensuring a viable future for generations to come. The purpose of the Climate Change Toolbox, (CCTB) Training was also to promote interagency cooperation and coordination for better decision-making based on science, and to increase the level of employee climate awareness and training, by fostering understanding. The CCTB Training was created by county employees for county employees, to learn from its staff experts how global climate change translates to local challenges and opportunities. The training provided staff with engaging activities designed to connect their programs to be responsive to community resilience needs, learn to apply new climate tools and resources in their current operations. Currently, 15 training sessions were offered, and 217 county employees completed climate training, representing 22 agencies and departments.
