The Child Welfare Substance Abuse Interventionist (CWSAI) program practice model is designed to achieve specific child welfare and substance abuse treatment outcomes, primarily keeping children in their home while the caregiver receives intensive home-based services and appropriate substance use treatment. This practice focuses on collaborative work between the CWS worker and substance abuse worker in home visiting, service planning and a strengths-based approach that families can be motivated to change. This approaches goal is to ensure that service delivery is offered in a timely, effective, coordinated way. This is an integrated service approach between Child Welfare Services and Addiction Services Coordination two very centric systems who often share clients. The collaboration between the substance abuse interventionist and child welfare social worker is intended to provide services to prevent childrenâs removal from their homes through effective child welfare case planning which address risk and safety concerns. Risk and safety planning is done while the substance abuse interventionist assist the parent in navigating through substance use treatment intended to allow a client to become a healthy parent.
