Alameda County transformed the disruption caused by a major construction project in the retail district of Castro Valley into an annual event that boosts economic development and civic pride. The Castro Valley Meet in the Street event is held annually in November, prior to the start of the holiday season. The event is comprised of business promotion and street entertainment during the day and an after-dark light parade of decorated vehicles, floats, bicycles and music performances that kicks off the holidays. The event’s focus is to strengthen economic development in the retail district of Castro Valley through business exposure and encouraging residents to shop and dine locally.
