The CalFresh Program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) issues monthly electronic benefits via Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards that customers use to purchase food. The CalFresh Program helps promote and safeguard the health and well-being of low-income households by raising their level of nutrition and increasing their food purchasing power. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) conducts CalFresh outreach year-round to raise awareness, increase access to food assistance and, promote healthy food choices in the nation's largest and most diverse county. In addition to deploying the DPSS Mobile Outreach team to health fairs, health clinics, hospitals, schools, and libraries, the Department also partners with local agencies and community/faith-based organizations to maximize its CalFresh outreach efforts. To that end, DPSS created the CalFresh Outreach Toolkit to provide its partner agencies with uniform, up-to-date reference information on the CalFresh Program for them to refer to when conducting their own outreach activities. The CalFresh Outreach Toolkit contains the following resource materials: marketing print materials, online media files, a social media guide, a CalFresh Program Fact Sheet, a geocoded listing and map, and information on how to become a certified CalFresh Application Assister.
