About the Program

Category: Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation (Best in Category)

Year: 2015

The Caleb Cultural Passport program provides professional, world-class cultural experiences, free of charge, to more than 40,000 school children annually. Miami-Dade County Public School students ranging in age from kindergarten through grade 12, and students who are enrolled in Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Summer Camps are our audiences. Caleb Cultural Passport performances take place from September through May during the school year and from June through August for summer camps at the Joseph Caleb Auditorium, a 980-seat County owned and operated cultural facility located in the heart of Liberty City, a primarily African American/Black inner-city neighborhood in Miami-Dade County. Now in its third year, Caleb Cultural Passport has been lauded by teachers, parents, school administrators and students for offering these transformative opportunities to students who may otherwise not have the chance to see live dance, music, and theatrical performances in a professional theater setting. The programs range from deep-immersion master classes with top-tiered artists for small groups of high school and middle school students, to a myriad of performances representing all performing arts genres. In addition, outreach to programs serving youth with disabilities encourages and supports participation by all audiences.
