Year: 2014

In 2012-2013, the Building Automation System (BAS) Control Integration Project moved the County of San Bernardino from an antiquated model to a robust technology rich model. The new model took advantage of the County’s Wide Area Network (WAN), which networked 31 BAS systems together. These systems consisted of six different BAS manufactures and technically created one BAS system which was accessible day and night from any computer with an internet connection. The strategy and subsequent achievement of the project was to leverage technologies to monitor system performance and device failures, provide system alarms via email, save energy, and maintain building temperatures at a comfortable and consistent level during abnormal weather events. The goal was to provide a model that had a standard topology, shorten the time it took to respond to modify building temperatures and schedules, save energy, and provide a greater return on dollars spent for energy, payroll and travel to buildings.
