Category: Libraries (Best in Category)

Year: 2018

In June 2017, Broward County Library launched the Veterans Connect Program, a new, comprehensive program designed to assist the community’s veterans in transitioning from active-duty military service to civilian life. This innovative, multifaceted initiative offers veterans technological, educational and employment resources to further their education and secure employment. Broward County Library’s Veterans Connect Program also provides veterans with free, portable Internet “hotspots” that allow them to access the Internet anywhere. The Veterans Connect Program targets veterans through intensive outreach efforts and a dedicated marketing campaign. Veterans are trained in very duty-specific skills and behaviors. Broward County Library recognizes that it is uniquely positioned to provide tools to assist with the translation and transition of their skills and knowledge so veterans can obtain employment. Specifically, veterans can benefit greatly from live job coaching, resume-writing assistance, live interview help, online courses for professional development, college placement preparation, GED practice testing, online computer classes, and other employment-related resources. These services tie in with hotspots as they allow the user 24/7 access to Broward County Library s online resources. While many of these services are available to everyone in the community, the Veterans Connect Program packages all of these services and market directly to veterans.
