Cuyahoga County led a complicated development for a 4Mw Solar farm (35,520 solar panel array) on a closed and capped municipal landfill in suburban Brooklyn, Ohio. The electricity provides approximately 8-10% of the Countyâs power needs for 10 buildings located in the City of Cleveland. The project utilizes the electric distribution system of the municipal utility Cleveland Public Power (CPP). IGS Solar built and owns the solar system and provides the power to the County via CPP. The City of Brooklyn receives income from the project in the form of annual lease payments. Over the course of the guaranteed life of the panels, Cuyahoga County expects to save approximately $3m in electricity payments.Importantly the project was an almost completely Ohio sourced project. The solar panels were made by First Solar in Toledo. The racking system was made by RBI solar in Cincinnati. The project financier and owner is IGS Solar out of Columbus. Enerlogics, LLC out of Youngstown helped put the whole deal together. Legal documents were developed by local attorneys from Bricker and Eckler and McDonald Hopkins. And the labor was all completed by local electricians, laborers and installers
