The Baltimore County Automated License Plate Reader Project is a collaborative effort between the Baltimore County Police Department and the County’s Office of Information Technology to introduce new technology into the police department’s arsenal to combat auto theft and other crimes. Although Automated License Plate Readers have been in existence for several years, Baltimore had limited their use to investigative units only. This project was developed to integrate the License Plate Readers into the uniformed patrol functions of the police department.
