The Board of Supervisors created Assessment Appeals Boards (AABs) sitting on behalf of the State Board of Equalization for the County of Los Angeles. The five AABs with over 35 individual Assessment Hearing Officers conduct hearings on property assessment disputes between the Assessor and taxpayers, ranging from homeowners and small business owners to multi-billion dollar corporations, in order to establish the assessed value of real and personal property on the County property tax roll. Assessment Appeals has more contact and impact on the public than any other unit in the Executive Office assisting taxpayers withtheir appeal rights and application filing.
