Arrowhead Regional Medical Center launched a unique Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) at the start of fiscal year 2009-2010. This program incorporates 10 training modules, which promote a very proactive culture of safety, injury and hazard prevention practices and healthy lifestyles. The focus of IIPP training modules is to increase employee knowledge and accountability in the areas of injury prevention, early hazard recognition and mitigation, loss control and health lifestyle practices. The overall goal for the program is to reduce employee work-related injury incidents by 50 percent within the first year. The Hospital Safety Committee and the IIPP Taskforce maintain oversight of the initiative. Ensuring a workplace that is committed to employee safety is a commitment that is supported at all levels of the organization. Preliminary qualitative and quantitative outcomes of the program are very positive. In the first six months of the program, the county witnessed a 63 percent reduction in total workers compensation. In addition, the number of injuries was reduced by 25 percent. As of now, a total of 69 IIPP training modules have been presented by the county, with an aggregate total of 961 participants attending.
