Montgomery County’s Department of Technology Services (DTS) implemented an Application Virtualization solution in response to security and functional concerns of legacy software within its ever-evolving and technologically complex environment. DTS, working with various County departments and agencies, identified a number of software packages that, although vital to County operations, posed significant security, functional, or logistical problems in their current form as locally installed software packages. Virtualizing these applications provided County employees with seamless access to legacy applications via a secure and centrally managed virtual application server. These virtual applications now provide County employees secure access to mission critical, legacy applications while removing vulnerabilitiesand improving the security posture of the County’s technology environment.
