All About the Arts is a way to provide an opportunity for teens and young adults who have any disability to experience and acquire increased social and independence skills through participation in the arts. The program is led by licensed Therapeutic Recreation Specialists, employed by Mecklenburg County Park and recreation Department (MCPRD), who are knowledgeable in the adaptations necessary to assist people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Participants enjoy a variety of creative arts ranging from photography, creative expression, dance, and theater. They are given the opportunity to learn how to use a digital camera and taking quality photographs in one class while in the other, they learn all aspects of putting on a production from line memorization, acting out movements, to set design and making props. The program continues to attract new participants, as well as retaining a number of repeat registrants.
