As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the California Safer at Home Initiative, the aging population and those individuals with permanent or temporary disabilities have a need to receive their vital necessities while continuing to shelter in place at home and reduce their exposure to COVID-19. With an increased number of elderly and disabled individuals staying in their homes, a more active effort needed to be made to ensure they received vital necessities. The Los Angeles County Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS) Department’s Adult Protective Services Program and Planning Division developed protocols to promote a collaboration between WDACS and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to deliver food and other vital necessities to those sheltering safely at home due to COVID-19, through the Critical Delivery Services (CDS) program.
