WASHINGTON – The National Association of Counties (NACo) responded to President Trump’s State of the Union address with the following statement from Executive Director Matthew Chase:

“The State of the Union address spoke to many of the increasingly complex daily challenges our counties face, reinforcing the need for strong intergovernmental partnerships. The president highlighted several shared priorities such as a strong economy that is best achieved by partnering with local governments, including America’s county governments.

“As a country we must work together on pressing issues such as economic security and stability, transportation and infrastructure, AI, energy and local land use, disaster reform, rural development and more.

“County governments remain committed to collaborating with the administration and Congress so our residents are healthy, secure and prospering, because we know these intergovernmental partnerships and investments have a positive impact on the lives and futures of our residents and communities.

“As we approach reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Act and Farm Bill this year, we urge our federal and Congressional partners to focus on long-term, bipartisan solutions so all our residents can thrive.”
