On March 25, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced $1 billion in funding through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program to support disaster mitigation and recovery efforts. This announcement follows a temporary pause and subsequent court-ordered resumption of the program.

The BRIC program focuses on investments in resilient, long-term infrastructure to reduce disaster risk and protect communities. Of the total funding:

  • $112 million is available for state allocations, with counties eligible to apply as subapplicants.
  • $757 million is available through a national competition.
  • $56 million is designated for state and territorial building code initiatives, with counties also eligible as subapplicant.

This funding presents a significant opportunity for counties to strengthen infrastructure, enhance community resilience and reduce future disaster impacts.
Interested applicants and subapplicants can review the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for additional details and application requirements.
