Transportation Policy Steering Committee Meeting

Join the Transportation Policy Steering Committee's Business Meeting for an interactive technical assistance session with subject matter experts from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Agriculture and Rural Affairs Policy Steering Committee Meeting

The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Policy Steering Committee will hear from a series of partners to forecast the legislative landscape for upcoming timely issues. The committee will also consider and vote upon interim policy resolutions informing NACo's advocacy and engagement on Capitol Hill and among federal agencies.

Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Policy Steering Committee Meetings

The Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Policy Steering Committee discuss its federal policy priorities. Federal partners and experts will join the meeting to examine policy outlooks for the 118th Congress, including issues surrounding the oversight of pension plans and federal policies that could impact county finances and the municipal bond market. Additionally, the committee will hear from each subcommittee chair on NACo's latest activities in Washington, D.C.

Human Services and Education Policy Steering Committee Meeting

Congressional and federal agency partners will join the Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee to discuss critical issues, including addressing mental health in the criminal justice system, disaster mitigation and response, and the outlook for the committee's policy priorities in the 118th Congress.

The Public Lands Policy Steering Committee will discuss and debate resolutions and meet with key federal partners to discuss progress on infrastructure implementation, efforts to improve landscape health and streamline the regulatory process.

Telecommunications and Technology Policy Steering Committee Meeting

The Telecommunications and Technology Policy Steering Committee will meet with federal partners and stakeholders to discuss issues, including the implementation of broadband and cybersecurity programs under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the elevation of the county role in digital equity efforts, and addressing the deployment of advanced wireless technologies as well as other issues.

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Subcommittee of the Information Technology Standing Committee focuses on GIS education, national trends and proposed legislation that might affect GIS. Members are county elected officials, surveyors and planners, GIS directors and other county GIS leadership. The subcommittee will hear from national organizations and partners on relevant updates on current and future landscape of GIS policies and practices.

The social determinants of health (SDOH) are the conditions in which we live, learn, work and play that directly and indirectly impact the health and well-being of communities. Those who work within the field of public health have a deep understanding of these issues and the importance of addressing SDOHs to drive improvements to community health. Other stakeholders, such as policymakers and the general public, may not share the same background as public health officials, but play a critical role in shaping how social determinants are addressed at the community level.

During this session, Healthy Counties Advisory Board (HCAB) members will explore strategies and share ideas for increasing awareness and understanding of SDOHs among county leaders and community members to drive improvements to public health.

Arts & Culture Commission: Community Development and The Arts

Arts and Culture Commission members will report on their participation in NACo’s Creative Counties Placemaking Challenge with project partner Americans for the Arts, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. County leaders will provide examples of how they integrated the arts to advance community development goals, including supporting recovery and healing from addiction, commemorating and celebrating indigenous culture and history, and engaging community to rebuild a local arts council and prevent out-migration of residents. The session will open with D.C.-based spoken word artist and Diversity Equity and Inclusion practitioner Charity Blackwell.
