    Gene Sperling is an economist, author and former director of the National Economic Council. He served as assistant to the president for economic policy under Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. In 2002, he founded the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institute. He is the author of Economic Dignity (Peguin Press, 2020) and The Pro-Growth Progressive: An Economic Strategy for Shared Prosperity (New York: Simon & Schuster, 2005).
